The Family Dairies USA 38th annual member meeting is slated for Saturday, Feb. 13, at the Holiday Inn Hotel and Convention Center, Stevens Point.

More than 200 dairy farm delegates will be electing members to various terms on the board of directors and act on Family Dairies USA’s 2010 policy resolutions and other matters.

Pre-meeting tours to Gordondale and Sandy Valley Farms are scheduled for Friday afternoon, Feb. 12. There will be an awards banquet held that evening to recognize outstanding contributions made by individuals in the dairy industry.

Scheduled again this year during the annual meeting will Early Bird sessions on Friday, Feb. 12 and Saturday, Feb. 13. The first session takes place at 5 p.m. Friday and features Brian Gould, associate professor at University of Wisconsin-Madison, addressing dairy price risk and management tools. Saturday morning’s Early Bird sessions kick off at 7 a.m. with Pete Hardin, editor of “The Milkweed,” talking about dairy farm families’ biggest challenges, followed by Paul Scharfman, president of Specialty Cheese Company, speaking on finding a niche in the world of cheese.

Back by popular demand this year will be a Gallery of Cheeses – a collection of some of the Midwest’s finest cheeses from eight organizations in Family Dairies’ membership area. The organization is also hosting a silent auction to benefit youth educational programs with such items as Badger basketball and Packer football tickets up for bid. The business session of the annual meeting, beginning at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 13 is open to all Family Dairies USA members.

Family Dairies USA, headquartered in Madison, is a qualified dairy cooperative serving approximately 3,200 dairy farm families in six states.
