Television program showcases cheese pairings

MADISON

Wisconsin cheese is a perfect choice for any party or event, and in a new episode of “Discover Wisconsin,” America’s Dairyland viewers will learn about the art of cheese pairing.

The 30-minute program, put together by the Wisconsin Milk Marketing Board and “Discover Wisconsin,” is set for broadcast Nov. 21 and Nov. 22 on network and cable stations in eight states.

The show, titled “A Guide to Great Pairings,” will highlight numerous varieties of Wisconsin cheese and where to shop for artisan cheeses, and what foods and Wisconsin beers pair best with the featured cheese varieties.

Cheese expert Sara Hill from the Wisconsin Milk Marketing Board guides “Discover Wisconsin” host Stephanie Klett through the many different ways to make cheese exciting for party guests, from easy-to-prepare appetizers to decadent desserts.

Several Wisconsin cheeses are discussed throughout the show, including Carr Valley Bread Cheese, Hook’s Blue Cheese, Roth Käse Van Gogh Gouda, Belgioioso Mascarpone, Widmer’s Four-Year Cheddar, Cave-Aged Mellage, Marieke’s Gouda, Limburger and Gran Queso.

Kat Draper from Sendik’s Food Market in Germantown, and Patty Peterson of Larry’s Market in Brown Deer, are also featured in the episode, describing various Wisconsin artisan cheeses and their defining characteristics.
