BARABOO

Equity Cooperative Livestock Sales Association’s Monroe Market is offering cattle demonstrations designed to improve daily livestock work as part of their customer appreciation event this year.

In addition, there will also be vet demonstrations on the proper techniques to utilize when vaccinating cattle. All of these activities, including a complimentary lunch served throughout the day on July 2, will take place prior the market’s 6 p.m. feeder cattle sale.

Dr. Ron Gill, Texas A & M Livestock Specialist and lifelong cattleman, will conduct presentations for improved gathering, penning, chute work, loading and hauling of livestock. Cattle will be used to illustrate proven stockmanship methods and techniques to benefit everyday livestock work. Emphasis is placed on ways to increase cattle performance by reducing handling stress.

The Monroe market opened in 1976 and is Wisconsin’s largest cattle volume market patronized by more than 4,000 producers. Equity Monroe is well known for their feeder and fat cattle sales that attract buyers from across the tri-state area.

Equity Cooperative Livestock Sales Association is a federated cooperative headquartered in Baraboo. Equity operates 11 Wisconsin auction markets and one in Iowa. In addition, collection points are also located in Ettrick and Menominee, Michigan, while a private treaty livestock buying center is located in Arlington.
