Semi collides with cart pulled by oxen in Kansas
An 86-year-old man has been injured after his ox-drawn cart collided with a tractor-trailer in northwest Kansas.
The Kansas Highway Patrol said Lon E. Sowers was taken to the Colby hospital and later flown to another hospital after the collision Thursday (Nov. 12) northwest of Colby.
Patrol spokesman Tod Hileman said the oxen were not badly hurt. He said one of the animals fell down but got back to its feet, and the team was walked back to Sowers’ farm. He said a trooper checked on the animals later and found them eating.
Sowers had driven the team in several parades.
The patrol said the accident happened when the tractor-trailer attempted to pass the cart on the left. Sowers began to turn the cart left as the rig attempted to pass, and they collided.
