Great Lakes and Natural

Resources Camp scheduled

4-H Great Lakes and Natural Resources Camp is August 2-8 at Camp Chickagami in Presque Isle. The camp is nestled between the shores of Lake Huron and the inland Lake Esau. The camp is designed for Michigan teens ages 13 to 15 years old; both 4-H and non-4-H youth are encouraged to attend.

This Michigan State University pre-college program provides hands-on experiences with Michigan’s natural resources, builds leadership skills and encourages career exploration.

“Campers will gain a greater awareness of the exciting natural resources that Michigan has to offer and increase their ability and desire to become good environmental stewards,” said Judy Ratkos, program leader for 4-H Youth Development with Michigan State University Extension.

In addition to hands-on learning, campers will get to enjoy an array of activities, including kayaking, snorkeling, sailing, fossil hunting, photography, evenings around a campfire and “just having a lot of fun in the outdoors,” Ratkos said. They’ll meet people from across the state and develop everlasting friendships.

Teens interested in attending 4-H Great Lakes and Natural Resources Camp, whether 4-H members or not, should contact their county MSU Extension office at 1-888-MSUE-4MI.
