The WISCONSIN STATE FARMER
first appeared as the Central Wisconsin Farmer in 1956. It was, and still is, published in Waupaca, Wisconsin, when it originally covered a six - county area in Central Wisconsin. Later, an edition was added called the Southern Wisconsin Farmer. After a few years of publication, the two editions were merged into today's WISCONSIN STATE FARMER.
The newspaper was introduced by the late Carl L. Turner, and is now published by his son, Scott. As a second- generation, family- owned- and- operated business, we feel a kinship with
Wisconsin's family farmers. The paper is short on flash; little editorial color is used, and graphics are not widespread. Our aim is hard news, which is critical in helping today's farmers survive in a rapidly
changing economic and technical world.
Our advertising staff consists of Cal Krisher, manager, along with five outside salesmen. We also have a telephone marketing/ co-op advertising department staffed by three people. On
the editorial side, Carla Gunst, editor, is supported by a staff reporter in Madison, and a large number of free- lance writers and columnists from across the state. The paper is also a member of the Associated
Press, and uses that organization as a major source of news and information.
